Installing door strips on Tesla

How to install door moldings on your Tesla from Hamphi.com

Door moldings can be the solution if you experience annoying road noise and wind noise in your Tesla at higher speeds!

Our door seals provide better sound insulation and protect against dirt in the entryway! Door moldings are one of the most popular accessories on our website. Please note that the installation should be done on a warm car where the surface is at least 15 degrees. If you want to ensure extra good installation, we recommend cleaning with T-red and then supplementing with a primer. For example, from 3M which you can find on our website.

Installation

Each door strip is uniquely packaged in different named bags. This makes it easy to identify where each door strip should be installed. The strips are deliberately made in too long lengths. This is so that you as a customer have a reserve to use if something goes wrong. When fitting the seal and attaching the ones you are going to use, simply cut away the excess before pressing each end onto the strips.

Take one door strip at a time. Make sure you have cleaned with T-red or equivalent cleaner before starting the installation. Hold the strip up to the intended surface to know which part you need and how to position it. Remember to place all door moldings a few mm inwards on the doors so that the moldings do not stick out when you close the door! For Model 3 & Y, all door moldings should be installed. For Model S, install all door moldings except the A and B pillar. For Model X, install all door moldings except the A, B and rear doors.

The front doors

Installed with the thick part of the door strip at the bottom of the door while the narrow strip is mounted upwards. Here it is important that you start at the edge, at the bottom of the door (with a few mm in so that no door moldings are visible when you close the doors).

Then you simply fit the narrow part upwards on the door while the thicker part follows the edge at the bottom of the door along the entire door. Here it is important not to cover the drainage holes for water from the windows. Alternatively, you can mount the door strip a little higher up above the holes (we usually recommend this). It is also possible to cut the molding a little to leave a hole at the drainage hole.

A and B pillars

Fit to the respective part of the body/doors as shown above.

Rear doors

Start at the top of the edge and work your way down the door (with a few mm in so that the strip is not visible when you close the door). Here it is also important not to cover the drainage holes for water from the windows. Alternatively, you can mount the molding a little higher up above the holes (we usually recommend this). It is also possible to cut the door strip a little so that there is a hole at the drainage hole.

Frunk

Identify the center of the molding. This should be placed in the middle of the frunk relatively far out on the edge (but still with a few mm margin inwards so that the strip is placed correctly while nothing is visible when closing the frunk). From the middle of the trunk, you mount the strip. Then the strip will go around to the edges and create an even pressure. This minimizes insects from entering the trunk while driving.

The luggage compartment

Mounted between the respective brake lights on the cars. Here you follow the edge of the boot lid (but still with a few mm margin inwards so that the strip is positioned correctly while nothing is visible when closing the boot lid). Excess parts are easily cut away.

Have any of your strips come loose? Use new 3M tape which you can find on our website. remember that for optimal adhesion we also recommend primer from 3M.
