Volvo och Tesla dominerar elbilsmarknaden i Sverige under februari 2024

Volvo and Tesla dominate the electric car market in Sweden in February 2024

In February 2024, Tesla and Volvo emerged as clear leaders in the new EV segment in Sweden, with Tesla as the most sought-after new EV model and Volvo as the leading EV brand for the month. In February, a total of 5,592 new EVs were registered, representing a 14.6 percent decline compared to the same period last year but a 6.5 percent increase from the previous month.

Despite a year-on-year decrease, the number of new EV registrations in Sweden is returning to 2022 levels, with the 2024 statistics showing a parallel trend to the 2022 data.

Electric cars accounted for 27.5 percent of all new car registrations in February, which is a decrease from 2023 but an increase compared to 2022. Total new car registrations, regardless of powertrain, also showed a decline, which has been warned about by industry associations due to the strained economic climate.

The most popular new electric cars in February 2024 include Tesla Model Y with 1,003 registrations, followed by Volvo XC40 with 561 and Volvo EX30 with 361. Other prominent models include Polestar 2, Volkswagen ID. Buzz and Volvo C40 among the top 15.

As for the leading electric car brands for the month, Volvo topped the list with 1,166 registrations, closely followed by Tesla with 1,064. Volkswagen, Kia and BMW were also among the top five brands, showing a wide range of popularity and preferences among Swedish EV buyers.

In summary, February 2024 clearly shows that Tesla and Volvo dominate the Swedish market for new EVs, despite a general decline in new car registrations. This underlines the continued interest and demand for EVs in Sweden, even in a challenging economic landscape.
