Tesla Fast Chargers: Testing Charging Power Up to 323 kW
Tesla has long been a leader in electric vehicle charging and its fast chargers today deliver up to 250 kW of charging power. This includes the latest generation, the Supercharger V4, which Tesla began installing last year.
Recently, however, it has emerged that these V4 chargers are future-proofed to handle significantly higher powers. Now Tesla seems to be starting to test this capacity. Reports from the US indicate that some charging stations are now reaching charging powers of over 320 kW.
For now, this high charging power is limited to a facility in Los Gatos, California, and has only been observed with the Tesla Cybertruck. One user reported that they managed to reach up to 323 kW in charging power, suggesting that Tesla has increased the amperage to achieve this speed.
TeslaLatino has shared its experiences with the faster charging. The data has been later confirmed on social media by Wes Morrill, an engineer at Tesla:
– We are testing this on a few different V3+ stations (V3 cabinet and V4 charging post). This is not a bug, but it is also not rolled out to all hardware compatible stations yet, writes Wes.
Today, it is not uncommon for newly established charging stations to offer charging powers of between 300 and 400 kW. This development is often enabled by 800-volt technology, which can deliver higher powers and thus significantly faster charging times in the future. Tesla's tests with higher charging powers indicate that they are well on their way to further revolutionizing EV charging, which could reduce charging times and increase convenience for EV owners worldwide.
