Tesla Megapacks power France's largest BESS project
Mobility Sweden has recently presented the statistics for new car registrations for the first half of 2024, and the figures offer both positive and challenging news. While the vehicle market in general has declined by six percent, the month of June showed a remarkable boost for electric cars.
In June, the share of electric cars reached its annual best with 35.9% of all newly registered cars, corresponding to 9 118 new electric cars. However, despite this success, the number of EVs registered in the first half of the year decreased by 19.9% compared to the same period last year.
In total, 41 998 electric cars have been registered so far this year, representing 31.7% of all new cars. This is down from 34.6% in the same period last year.
– It is gratifying that the share of electric cars reached an annual best in June, but at the same time we see a stagnating market, which leads to a gradually aging vehicle fleet. To meet the climate goals and strengthen Sweden's competitiveness, it is crucial that electrification is accelerated, says Mattias Bergman, CEO of Mobility Sweden.
