Blockad mot Teslas Superchargers kan bromsa expansionen i Sverige

Blockade against Tesla's Superchargers could slow down expansion in Sweden

Tesla's ambitions to expand its network of Superchargers in Sweden may face obstacles due to a blockade by trade unions. The blockade concerns the connection of new fast chargers to the electricity grid, a step taken by the unions Seko and Elektrikerförbundet against new installations of Tesla's charging stations. This move could pose challenges for Tesla, especially given that most grid companies, often municipally owned, have collective agreements, which could complicate the process of installing new chargers.

Meanwhile, the Tesla Model Y has become Sweden's most popular new car in recent months, despite strikes and sympathy actions by various unions. These actions do not seem to have significantly affected sales. Tesla plans to open more than 20 new Superchargers in Sweden this year alone, but the union actions pose a potential difficulty in these expansion plans.

The unions' position seems to be that the high levels of collective bargaining coverage among grid companies make it difficult to circumvent the blockade. Moreover, it has emerged that only a third of Tesla's employees actively participated in previous strike actions, which may indicate different views within the company on the necessity of signing collective agreements.

Tesla's Swedish company, TM Sweden AB, argues that they are better off not being bound by collective agreements, based on the flexibility of Swedish law regarding unionization. This situation pits Tesla's expansion plans against trade union requirements and regulations, creating a complex dialogue between technological innovation and labor law traditions.
