Is the $25
Tesla has for some time been promising a more wallet-friendly electric car with a starting price of $25,000. At the 2020 shareholder meeting, the company's frontman, Elon Musk, predicted that this car could hit the market around three years from now, indicating that the time for its arrival is approaching.
Although Tesla kicked off the year with significant price reductions, the existing models have not yet reached the desired price tag of $25,000. However, speculations and signs that a cheaper car model is in development have strengthened, and a new indication has been added.
During a recent visit to Tesla's factory in Germany, located just outside of Berlin, Musk stated that this facility will also be the production site for the rumored $25,000 electric car. This information was shared via a post on the factory's channel on a platform formerly known as Twitter.
Previous assumptions have indicated that the production of the more affordable car would take place in a new factory that Tesla plans to build in Mexico. Having recently secured the necessary permits for this new facility, it still remains unclear when production will actually begin there.
In Mexico, Tesla is expected to implement even more advanced technology than what is already used in the German factory today, a development that could facilitate the realization of offering the promised car model at the ambitious price.
Therefore, the information that the German plant will also participate in the production of the more cost-effective model came as a surprise. Currently, only the Model Y is produced in the German plant.
