Description
Do you think the door panel of your Tesla Model 3/Y is a bit old-fashioned and boring? We do too, so we made a vinyl to cover the wood with something more modern!
Using the same 3M 1080/2080 vinyl that we use in our other 3M films for the center console, you can even get the same matching look!
We have carbon fiber which is a heavier foil and is easier to install and hides the structure of the wood better under the foil.
A set includes:
- A foil in the chosen look for the door panel of your Model 3/Y (2021 and later).
- Mounting tool to easily stretch the foil to a good application on the dashboard.
- 3M knifeless tape (5 meters). Video on how to use this can be found here.
There are four steps in the installation:
1. Apply the knifeless tape at the bottom of the door panel
2. Attach the foil, starting at one edge and making sure it attaches at the top and is smooth with the mounting tool
3. Work over the entire foil so you get a smooth surface from the top edge down to the tape that sits at the bottom edge of door panel
4. Cut the foil with the knifeless tape you applied in step one and finish with a little heat from a hair dryer and scrape / press down the foil at the bottom edge (watch this video and you will understand what we mean).
Each step takes about 10 minutes. When you're done, transform the door panel of your Tesla Model 3 from retro modern to just modern.

FAQ
Q. I failed the application. What can I do?
A. The vinyl is really forgiving, and if there is a crease or stretch, applying some warm air (from a hair dryer or even leaving the car in the sun) can often restore its original shape and allow you a do-over.
Q. What is the best (or worst!) option for fingerprinting?
A. Most of the options resist or hide fingerprints very well. The brushed and carbon fiber options hide them completely. Satin White is second best, followed by Satin Black and Matrix Black. The matte black, as you would expect, tends to show fingerprints or greasy marks more than the other options. But it is also our most popular option (by far).
Q. Which one is easier to install?
A. The heavier textured surfaces (carbon fiber, Matrix black) are easier, as they are slightly thicker and more tolerant of the odd dust spot that can get stuck under the film. The brushed surfaces are next, as they still have a texture and are a bit heavier. The smooth films take a little longer to install as the surface must be completely clean.
Q. Which is the easiest to live with?
A. Carbon Fiber is the toughest film, because of the heavier structure it is difficult to scratch or see fingerprints. The brushed finishes are thinner, but generally fall into the same category. The matrix finish is also tough, but has a more matte surface, so will show greasy marks or "Starbucks" rings. The matte finishes usually show most of the marks, so if this is an issue for you, you can consider the satin options as a good compromise.
Q. How are these made?
A. Each piece is cut in-house with commercial vinyl cutters to a custom design created in a vector graphics package. We only use 3M 1080 (and now 2080) vinyl because of its long life and ease of use.
Q. Does it completely cover the wood panel/white panel?
A. If it fits perfectly, yes. In fact, an absolutely perfect application can be challenging, but all lines and curves are smoothly cut.
Q. Can it be smoothly removed?
A. Yes, easily. The longer the vinyl, the stronger the bond, but it can always be removed without causing damage to the original surface. Just lift an edge and start gently pulling it off at a sharp angle.
Q. I'm not sure I can do this...
A. It's certainly not for everyone and that's why we offer installation where you can bring your car to our workshop in Gothenburg where a technician will install your chosen film.
Q. What is your favorite?
A. We love the brushed surfaces. Brushed Titanium is the closest match to the metal dash coating in the Model 3 & Y, but brushed steel has a really nice shade, so it's hard to choose between them. Carbon fiber is the easiest to fit and more typical of what you'd find in a car, so we love it too, but as always, it's a personal thing.
