Open the hood without power
In the unlikely event that Model X does not have low voltage power, you cannot open the front trunk using the touchscreen, remote key, or mobile app. In this case, open the front trunk as follows:
Note: The following steps to open the front trunk do not work if Model X is locked and the low voltage power supply is active.
- Locate an external low voltage power supply (as a jump start).
- Remove the tow eye cover by inserting a small flathead screwdriver into the top and bottom openings, loosen the snap locks and pull the cover towards you.
- Pull the two wires out of the towing eye opening to expose both poles.
- Connect the red positive (+) wire of the low voltage power supply to the red positive (+) terminal.
- Connect the black negative (-) wire of the low voltage power supply to the black negative (-) terminal.
Note: Using an external low-voltage power supply on the poles only releases the hood locks. You cannot use the positive and negative terminals to charge the battery. Do not leave the low voltage power cables connected to the poles for more than 30 seconds. Remove them from the vehicle terminals as soon as the hood latches.
- Turn on the external power supply (see manufacturer's instructions for details). The hood latches will immediately release, allowing you to open the hood and access the front trunk.
- Disconnect both cables, starting with the black negative (-) cable.
- If you are towing the vehicle on a flatbed transportation vehicle, do not put the cover back on the towing eye yet. If necessary, fit the tow eye guard by inserting the two wires into the opening of the tow eye and fit the tow eye guard in the correct position and snap it into place.
