Curfews and Parental Controls: Tesla's New Safety Initiative for Young Drivers

Tesla is rumoured to be introducing a feature dubbed ‘Night Driving Foot’ in its upcoming software update, version 2024.26. This feature is part of a number of new parental controls aimed at making driving safer for young drivers. According to reports from Not a Tesla App and Tessie, released to employees on Wednesday, the update also includes the ability to set maximum speed limits and reduce acceleration. For example, parents can limit acceleration to ‘Chill’ mode, which reduces vehicle power .

"Night curfew allows parents to set a time when they will receive notifications via the Tesla app if the vehicle is driven after a certain time. This aims to help parents keep track of bedtimes and make sure their teens don't drive late at night. Other features rumoured to be included are the ability to prevent the driver from turning off speed limits and collision warnings, as well as retaining the automatic emergency braking feature.

These controls are not only designed with parents and their teen drivers in mind, but can also be beneficial for Tesla owners who rent or lend their vehicles. The ability to set driving restrictions and receive notifications can help owners maintain control of their vehicles and ensure responsible driving.

Tesla continues to invest in safety with features like Sentry mode and these new parental controls, which address concerns around the safety of young drivers. Given the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration statistics showing that crashes are the leading cause of unintentional deaths among young people, these updates can provide parents with added peace of mind and contribute to safer driving habits among young drivers. Tesla continues its commitment to making driving as safe as possible for all users.
