Ford first in Sweden to allow hands-free driving

Teslas tester med högre laddeffekter tyder på att de är på god väg att ytterligare revolutionera laddningen av elbilar, vilket kan minska laddningstiderna och öka bekvämligheten för elbilsägare över hela världen.

Ford beat Tesla to introduce hands-free driving in Sweden. The system is now available in 15 European countries after receiving approval from the European Commission. The hands-free driving is possible on over 133,000 kilometers of selected highways around Europe, according to Ford in a press release.

It is already possible to drive from Sweden to Italy without holding the steering wheel, but the driver must still keep an eye on the road. BlueCruise is available and approved for customers to purchase for all new Mustang Mach-E cars sold in a total of 20 countries globally. Current owners of Mustang Mach-E from previous model years in selected countries will also be able to receive a software update in the future.

"We believe BlueCruise can make highway driving easier and more enjoyable, whether you are in stop-and-go traffic or on a long road trip. With this new decision, we will be able to offer even more customers access to BlueCruise across Europe, “said Ashley Lambrix, director of BlueCruise at Ford Motor Company.

The system controls steering, acceleration, braking, lane positioning and distance to the vehicle in front by monitoring road markings, speed signs and changing traffic conditions. It works at highway speeds and all the way down to complete stops in traffic jams. According to Ford, drivers can drive hands-free as long as they pay attention to the road ahead. A camera monitors that the driver does not take their eyes off the road. After a trial period, car owners must pay a monthly subscription to continue using the service.
