Vehicle Service Interval
Service should generally be performed on the vehicle on an as-needed basis. However, Tesla recommends the following maintenance points and intervals, as applicable to your vehicle, to ensure the continued reliability and efficiency of your Model S.
- Checking the condition of the brake fluid after 4 years (replace if necessary)*.
- Replacement of the air conditioning desiccant bag after 3 years.
- Replacement of cabin air filter after 3 years (or every year in China).
- HEPA filter replacement after 3 years (or every year in China).
- Clean and lubricate the brake calipers every year or after 12 500 miles (20 000 km) in an area where roads are salted in winter
- Rotate the tires after 6,250 miles (10,000 km) or if the difference in tread depth is 2/32 inch (1.5 mm) or greater, whichever occurs first
*Heavy use of the brakes due to towing, driving down hills, or performance driving - especially for vehicles in hot and humid environments - may require more frequent brake fluid checks and replacement.
Caution: Perform each procedure in this guide in a dry and well-lit area. For your own safety, only perform a procedure if you are comfortable with it and always follow the instructions.
Note: The warranty does not apply to damage caused by opening the battery coolant container.
Note: The above intervals are based on typical driving behaviors and scenarios. However, Model S should generally be serviced on an as-needed basis depending on various circumstances such as driving behavior, usage, environmental conditions, etc. The maintenance items listed above may need to be replaced more or less frequently than indicated. In addition, the above list should not be considered exhaustive and does not include consumable items such as windshield wipers, brake pads, etc.
Note: Damage or failure resulting from maintenance or repairs performed by technicians not certified by Tesla is not covered under warranty.
