Model X 2015-2020 - Check the brake fluid
Tesla Model X 2015-2020 - Wheels, tires and brakes
Check the brake fluid
Warning: Contact Tesla immediately if you notice that the brake pedal is moving more than usual or a significant decrease in brake fluid. Driving the vehicle under these circumstances may result in longer stopping distances or complete brake failure.
A red brake indicator on the dashboard warns you if the fluid in the brake reservoir drops below the recommended level. If it appears while you are driving the vehicle, stop as soon as you can do so safely by gently applying the brakes. Do not continue to drive the vehicle. Contact Tesla immediately.
Check the fluid level
Tesla checks the brake fluid level and condition at the regularly scheduled maintenance events.
Add brake fluid
Do not add brake fluid. The following instructions are for information and future reference only.
- Clean the filler cap before removing it to prevent dirt from entering the reservoir.
- Unscrew the cap and put it aside.
- Fill the reservoir to the MAXmark with the appropriate brake fluid.
- Replace the filler cap and make sure it is firmly in place.
Warning: Only use new fluid from a sealed airtight container. Never use previously used fluid or fluid from a previously opened container - the fluid absorbs moisture which reduces brake performance.
Warning: Brake fluid is highly toxic. Make sure that brake fluid containers are sealed and that children cannot access them. If the fluid is accidentally swallowed, seek medical attention immediately.
Caution: Brake fluid damages painted surfaces. Immediately soak up any spillage with an absorbent cloth and wash the area with a mixture of shampoo and water.
