Unlock when remote key does not work

If Model S does not unlock when you walk up to it or when you double-click the remote key unlock button, it may mean that the battery in the remote key is completely discharged. Even if this is the case, you can still use the remote key to unlock and run Model S.

Note: Although you can still use the remote key, consider using the mobile app to remotely open and start the vehicle. Then, replace the battery in the remote key if necessary.

To unlock Model S (and disable the security alarm), first place the remote key near the passenger-side windshield wiper bracket, then press the door handle on the right side of the vehicle. The remote key must be positioned correctly for the vehicle to unlock.

Note: The picture above shows a left-hand drive (LHD) vehicle. On a right-hand drive (RHD) vehicle, the positions are reversed.

To drive Model S after entering the driver's seat, place the bottom of the remote key against the center console just below the low voltage jack, then press and hold the brake pedal to start Model S.

Anm: When you unlock Model S using this method, walk-away locking is disabled. You must manually re-enable walk-away locking after replacing the remote key battery.
