Add washer fluid
The only container you can add fluid to is the washer fluid container located behind the front trunk. When the level is low, a message is displayed on the instrument panel.
To refill the washer fluid:
- Open the engine hood.
- Clean around the filler cap before opening it to prevent dirt from entering the container.
- Open the filler cap.
- Fill the container until the liquid level is visible just below the filler neck and try to avoid spilling.
- Immediately wipe up any spillage and wash the affected area with water.
- Replace the filler cap.
Caution: Use only motor vehicle washer fluid. Using other substances, such as untreated water, may cause bacterial growth in the air conditioner leading to odor or possible damage not covered by the warranty.
Note: Some national or local regulations restrict the use of VOCs. VOCs are often used as antifreeze in washer fluid. Use a washer fluid with limited VOC content only if it provides adequate antifreeze protection for all climates in which you operate Model S.
Caution: Do not add pre-mixed washer fluids that contain water repellents or insecticides. These fluids may cause streaking, smearing and squeaking or other noises.
Warning: At temperatures below40° F (4° C)you should use a washer fluid with antifreeze. In cold weather, using a nonantifreeze windshield washer fluid may reduce visibility through the windshield.
Warning: Flushing fluid can be irritating to eyes and skin. Read and follow the instructions of the washer fluid manufacturer.
