HEPA filter replacement
Tesla recommends replacing the HEPA filter, if so equipped, after 3 years (every year in China). To change the HEPA filter:
- Open the bonnet:
- Remove the protective cover under the rear bonnet.
- Remove both the left and right cover plates under the hood.
- Remove the front hood cover.
- Remove the drain hose from the air intake on both sides of the HEPA filter inlet duct.
- Using a pry tool, loosen the clamps (x3) that secure the HEPA filter inlet duct to the air intake. Remove the inlet duct from the vehicle.
Caution: Check that you have not damaged the tabs that fit the inlet duct into the HEPA filter housing.
- To loosen the HEPA filter outlet duct, gently lift it upwards and move it towards the front of the vehicle, then turn it clockwise. Remove the outlet duct from the vehicle.
- Carefully fold back the trunk seals to release the front of the mat from the storage compartment, then disconnect the electrical connection for the storage compartment light and emergency opening switch. Route the connections through the mat into the under-hood storage compartment.
- Remove the mat from the under-hood storage compartment.
- Use a pry tool to loosen the push clips (x2) securing the under-hood storage compartment to the vehicle.
- Remove the fasteners (x2) securing the under-hood storage unit to the vehicle. Remove the storage unit and the HEPA filter from the vehicle as one unit.
- Remove the fasteners (x8) that secure the HEPA filter to the rear of the storage unit.
- Remove the old HEPA filter from the storage unit.
- Put the new HEPA filter in place behind the storage unit.
- Tighten the fasteners (x8) that hold the HEPA filter to the rear of the storage unit (tightening torque 3.5 Nm).
- Put the storage unit with the HEPA filter back in its place in the front luggage compartment.
- Tighten the fastening pins (x2) that secure the storage unit to the vehicle (torque 7 Nm).
- Lock the push clips (x2) securing the storage unit.
- Put the mat back into the storage unit.
- Pull the electrical connections through the mat. Connect the electrical connections for the storage compartment lighting and emergency opening switch and adjust the seal so that there are no openings.
- Replace the HEPA filter outlet duct.
- Attach the clamps (x3) that secure the HEPA filter inlet duct to the air inlet.
- Attach the drain hose to the air inlet on both sides of the HEPA filter inlet duct.
- Replace the front, right, left and rear cover plates under the hood and close the hood.
