Remove and replace the front seat head restraints
The front head restraints in your vehicle are not adjustable and Tesla does not recommend removing them. However, if you must remove them, follow these steps to remove or replace the front head restraints:
Warning: There is an increased risk of injury in a collision without head restraints. Tesla does not recommend modifying or removing head restraints.
Remove a head restraint:
- Tape a few long strips of masking tape around the plastic portion of the seatback. The backrest may tip if the headrest is removed, so make sure the tape secures the backrest to the seat.
- Push the seat down around the headrest bars. Each headrest bar has a small metal clip on the left.
- Use a pointed tool or blunt stick to push the clip to the left to release the headrest from the seat.
Anm: Be careful with the pointed tool to avoid damage to the seat material.
- When the first bar is unlocked, place your hand under the headrest to prevent it from dropping back down and locking.
- Unlock the second headrest from the seat.
- Lift out the headrest. You may need to lower or recline the seat while gently pressing on the backrest, in case it comes loose.
Replacing a headrest:
- Align the headrest bars with the openings on the top of the seat and slide them in. You may need to push the backrest forward, as the clips in the backrest must also fit with the headrest arms.
- Push the headrest down until it is firmly seated. You may hear a click to indicate locking.
