If the trunk gas springs do not work for any reason, they can be replaced. To replace the trunk gas springs:
- Open the hood and use a temporary, non-threatening support to hold it open.
- Use a pry tool to loosen the clip that attaches the lower end of the gas spring to the vehicle hinge and release the gas spring.
- Use a pry tool to loosen the clip that secures the upper end of the gas spring to the hatch hinge and remove the gas spring from the vehicle.
- Clean the attachment points and lubricate both attachment points of the new gas spring.
- Attach the piston end of the gas spring to the vehicle hinge and the cylinder end to the hatch hinge. Ensure that the clips are fitted correctly.
- Remove the temporary support and check that the boot lid opens and closes correctly.
