Manually disconnect the charging cable
If the usual methods of disconnecting the charging cable from the charging socket (using the button on the charging handle, the touchscreen, or the mobile app) do not work, try holding down the rear trunk button located on the remote key (if applicable) for 1-2 seconds. If it still does not release, follow these steps carefully:
- To verify that Model S is not actively charging, display the charging screen on the touchscreen. If necessary, press Stop charging.
- Open the rear trunk.
- Pull the charging connector release cable downwards to release the charging cable.
Warning: Do not pull the unlocking cable while trying to disconnect the charging cable from the charging connector. Always pull the unlocking cablebeforeyou are trying to disconnect the charging cable. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock and serious injury.
Note: The unlocking cable may be submerged in the opening in the upholstery.
- Pull the charging cable out of the charging connector.
Caution: Useonly the unlocking cable in situations where you cannot detach the charging cable from the charging connector using the usual methods. Repeated use may damage the unlocking cable or the charging equipment.
