Tire pressure is displayed on the touchscreen when you pressControls > Service. The pressure in each tire is displayed on your Model S screen, along with the time of the last tire pressure measurement. The touchscreen also displays the vehicle's recommended cold tire pressure, so it's easy to determine how much to fill your tires. You can choose whether to view tire pressure in Bar or PSI by tapping Controls > Display > Tire Pressure.
You can also view tire pressure in the Tesla mobile app.
Note: You may need to drive a bit for the visualization to show tire pressure.
Check and adjust tire pressure
Follow these steps when the tires are cold and Model S has been stationary for more than three hours:
- The correct tire pressures are listed on the Tire and Loading Information label on the driver's center door pillar.
- Remove the valve cap.
- At a given pressure, place a tire pressure gauge on the valve to measure the pressure.
- If necessary, inflate or deflate to the recommended pressure.
Note:
You can release some air by pressing the metal pin in the middle of the valve.
- Check the pressure again using the appropriate tire pressure gauge.
- Repeat steps 3 and 4 as necessary until the tire pressure is correct.
- Replace the valve cap to prevent dirt from entering. Check the valve regularly for damage or leaks.
Maintain tire pressure
Keep tires inflated to the level indicated on the Tire and Loading Information label even if this is different from the pressure indicated on the tire itself. The Tire and Loading Information label is located on the center door pillar and is visible when the driver's door is open.
If you are towing a trailer do not use the tire pressures listed on the Tire and Loading Information label. Instead, refer to the Towing section of the Owner's Manual for tire pressure information.
The tire pressure indicator on the instrument panel warns you if one or more tires are under (or over) inflated.
The tire pressure indicator light does not go off immediately when you adjust the tire pressure. Once the tire is inflated to the recommended pressure, you must drive at a speed greater than 15 mph (25 km/h) for a short time to activate the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), which turns off the Tire Pressure Indicator Light.
If the indicator light flashes for less than one minute when you start Model S, a fault has been detected in the tire pressure monitoring system.
Note: Vehicle tire pressure drops in cold temperatures. Inflate the tires before driving if the TPMS indicator light comes on. Tire pressure drops by one PSI for every 10°F (6°C) drop in outside temperature. Proper tire pressure helps protect tires from pitting and range is improved when they are kept properly inflated.
Warning: Under-inflation is the most common cause of tire problems and can cause a tire to overheat, which can lead to severe tire cracking, tread separation or puncture. This can cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle and increase the risk of injury. Under-inflation also reduces vehicle range and tire life.
Warning: Check tire pressures with an accurate pressure gauge when the tires are cold. It only takes about one mile (1.6 km) of driving for the tires to warm up enough to affect the tire pressure. Parking your vehicle in direct sunlight or in hot weather can also affect tire pressure. If you check the tire pressure for warm tires, you can expect higher pressures. Do not let air out of warm tires to match the recommended tire pressure for cold tires. A warm tire that is at the same or lower pressure than that specified for cold tires is dangerously underinflated.
