Questions on safety standards

The Tesla Cybertruck faces regulatory hurdles, particularly in Europe. Its unique design and choice of materials have raised questions about safety standards in relation to pedestrian safety. In Europe, vehicle regulations require that front ends must not be too rigid and that the bumper and bonnet must be able to absorb energy to protect pedestrians in a collision. The Cybertruck's ultra-hard steel and robust body are designed to be extremely tough - good for the vehicle's durability but less beneficial for the safety of softer road users.

Why is Cybertruck not sold in Sweden?

The distinctive sharp-edged design does not meet the strict EU requirements for pedestrian safety. TÜV vehicle tests have shown that the front of the Cybertruck does not act as a crumple zone, resulting in huge forces being transmitted to the passengers instead of being absorbed in the event of a collision. Due to these design features, it is currently impossible to register the Cybertruck in the EU without extensive modifications.

For Tesla's innovative pickup truck to be approved as a passenger car in the EU, and therefore also in Sweden, these safety issues need to be addressed. Regulatory and safety requirements represent a significant challenge for Tesla, which will have to adapt its design significantly if it wants to see the Cybertruck rolling on European roads.
