Everything you need to know about ISOfix and fastening loops
Ensuring the safety of our children in the car is one of the most important aspects of car travel. This is where ISOfix comes in - a standard that has revolutionized the use of child car seats. Below we delve into what ISOfix is, how it works and the difference between our two sizes of attachment loops: 60 mm and 100 mm.
What is ISOfix and what is it used for?
ISOfix is an international standard for easily and safely securing child car seats in vehicles. It was introduced to make the installation of child car seats easier while reducing the risk of incorrect installation. Its design as a stable and standardized fastening system allows it to have some other uses, although these are more unusual and not always standardized.
How does ISOfix work?
ISOfix is based on two metal brackets that are integrated into the car body. These brackets are located between the backrest and the rear seat cushion, usually on the two outermost seats. To use ISOfix, you click the car seat's attachments directly into these metal brackets, providing a stable and secure installation.
Why should you use ISOfix?
- Easier installation: ISOfix eliminates the need to thread the seat belt around the car seat and follow complicated installation instructions. You simply click the seat into the ISOfix attachments, saving time and energy.
- Increased safety: Incorrect installation is one of the most common reasons for child car seats to malfunction in an accident. ISOfix reduces the risk of mistakes because the system is intuitive and clear.
- More stable anchorage: By attaching the car seat directly to the car body, you get a significantly more stable installation, reducing lateral and forward movement in a collision.
- Flexibility: ISOfix is a universal standard, which means that most modern cars have ISOfix attachments. These mounts are usually located on the outer seats of the rear seats and make it easy to switch seats between cars. Some newer car models also offer mounts in the middle or front seats.
Attachment loops: what size should you choose?
Anchor loops are fixed to the seat base to facilitate the installation of a car seat, for example. Anchoring to the loops also allows you to secure other important and fragile items in the car. Perfect when there are no anchorage points in the car!
We offer two different sizes, 60 mm and 100 mm. For mounting in front anchor points, 60 mm is often used, while 100 mm is the usual size for mounting in rear anchor points. To make sure you order the right size, check the front or rear screws in the floor to see the size that fits your car. You may also choose to check your car's owner's manual to see where the mounting points are located and which sizes are compatible.
About the product
ISOfix is used to mount child car seats, but in some cases can be used for other accessories and safety solutions, such as dog cages or organizers. However, it is important to ensure that the products are compatible and meet the safety requirements to avoid risks.
Our attachment loops are tested in consultation with VTI, the Swedish National Road and Transport Research Institute, to ensure correct and safe installation of rear-facing child seats in cars.
