Pair a Bluetooth device

After pairing, you can use your Bluetooth-enabled phone to make and receive phone calls, access your contact list, view recent calls, etc. You can also play media files from your phone. If a phone is paired, Model S can connect to it as soon as it is within range.

To pair a phone, perform the following steps while sitting in Model S:

  • Make sure both the touchscreen and the phone are turned on.
  • Activate Bluetooth on the phone and make sure it can be recognized

Note: On some phones, you may need to go to the Bluetooth settings to complete the procedure.

  • Tap the Bluetooth icon at the top of the touchscreen.
  • TapAdd a new device > Start search on the touch screen. The touchscreen displays a list of all available Bluetooth devices within range.
  • Tap the phone you want to pair on the touchscreen. Within a few seconds, the touchscreen will display a randomly generated number, and your phone should display the same number.
  • Check that the number displayed on your phone is the same as the number displayed on the touchscreen. Then confirm on your phone that you want to pair.
  • Your phone may ask you if you want to allow Model S to access your contacts and media files.

After pairing, Model S automatically connects to your phone and the Bluetooth symbol appears next to your phone's name on the touchscreen to indicate that the connection is active.

You can display the Bluetooth settings screen at any time to change settings associated with a connected device. For example, you can set a connected phone as Priority device. This is useful in situations where you have more than one phone connected and both phones are often used in Model S at the same time. Model S automatically tries to connect to the prioritized device before other devices.
