Start the low-voltage battery (lithium-ion type) with jumper cables

Vehicles manufactured in Gigafactory Shanghai after approximately October 2021 and in Fremont factory after approximately December 2021 have a low-voltage lithium-ion type battery.

• Open the hood:
• Remove the maintenance panel by pulling it upward to release the clips in the trim that hold it in place.
• If there is a HEPA filter, carefully fold the HEPA filter gasket towards the front of the vehicle to access the low voltage terminal.
• Pull back the black seal to expose the positive terminal.Remove the red cover and connect the red positive (+) wire of the external low voltage power source to the red positive (+) terminal.

Caution: To avoid damage to the vehicle, do not allow the positive cable to come in contact with other metal components.

• The HEPA filter bolt (shown below) acts as the negative start (-) terminal. Connect the low voltage power source black negative (-) wire to the black negative HEPA terminal.
• Turn on the external power supply (refer to the manufacturer's instructions) for 20 seconds and then turn off or disconnect the power supply.

Caution: If you leave the power supply on for longer than 20 seconds, the low-voltage battery may not recover on its own and the car cannot be switched to driving mode. If this happens, disconnect the power supply and the low voltage battery. Then reconnect the low voltage battery to allow a new recovery attempt.

Note: If you try to activate the transport mode (to winch the car onto a flatbed transport vehicle), the low voltage battery does not need to be recovered. Leave the power supply connected continuously until the vehicle is secured.

• Open the driver's door and wait for two minutes.
• Check that the car can be switched to driving mode.
• Replace the maintenance panel by placing it in its original position and pushing it down until it is firmly seated.
• Close the bonnet.
