Installing Roof Rails
You can purchase roof rails for your vehicle from the Tesla Store (https://shop.tesla.com/ or https://shop.tesla.cn/for China) to carry items such as surfboards or kayaks on the roof of your vehicle. To install the roof rails:
- Thoroughly clean the vehicle roof around the arrow locations on the glass and allow to dry.
- Use the arrow icons on the top of the support covers to identify which corners of the vehicle the covers and non-abrasive tape should be attached to.
- Measure 227 mm from the top front edge of the front left side glass. Align the arrow on the glass with the arrow on the non-abrasive tape. Then apply the non-abrasive tape by following the edge of the cover. Repeat this step on the right front side.
- Measure 412 mm from the top back edge of the rear left side glass. Align the arrow on the glass with the arrow on the non-abrasive tape. Then apply the non-abrasive tape by following the edge of the cover. Repeat this step on the right back side.
- Use a clamping tool to gently pull back the rubber seal at the arrow placement.
- Hold the clamping tool in place and insert a rail clamp at the arrow position.
- Remove the clamping tool while checking that the clamp is firmly seated in the metal holder under the glass. Pull up and wiggle to check that it is firmly attached. Check that the center of the hook is aligned with the arrow. Repeat this procedure on the remaining corners of the vehicle.
- Do not place the front left side guard over the front clip on the driver's side. Use the icon to help you identify and install the correct guard in the correct location. Repeat this procedure when installing the vehicle's remaining guards.
- To install the crossbars: make sure all four hooks engage, are properly aligned and in the upright position. Then carefully place the front and rear crossbars on top of the covers.
Note: The front crossbar is longer than the rear crossbar.
- Install the wing nuts and hand tighten each tower.
- Tighten the wing nuts with the Allen key until the tower is firmly fixed to the vehicle. We recommend tightening to 2.5-3.5 Nm. To confirm that the tower is installed correctly, pull in all directions and check that there is no movement. To lock the system, the marking on the wing nut must be aligned with the marking on the tower.
Note: If you tighten too much, vehicle damage may occur.
- Use the key to lock all towers.
- Make sure that the front and rear crossbars are properly fitted by pulling in all directions.
- Install the covers. Start with the bottom edge and then press the top one into place.
