Changing the remote key battery

In normal use, the remote key accessory has a battery that lasts up to one year depending on the remote key version and the selected vehicle settings. When the battery charge is low, a message appears on the touchscreen.

Changing the battery in the remote key:

  • Place the remote key face down on a soft surface and loosen the bottom cover with a small flat blade tool.
  • Remove the battery by lifting it away from the mounting clips.
  • Insert the new battery (type CR2032) with + upwards and avoid touching the flat surface of the battery.

Note: Wipe the battery before installation and avoid touching the flat surface of the battery. Fingerprints on the flat surfaces of the battery may shorten the life of the battery.

Note: CR2032 batteries are available in all stores where batteries are sold.

  • Keeping the lower cover angled, align the tabs of the cover's corresponding openings on the remote key, then press the cover firmly onto the key until it snaps into place.
  • Check that the remote key works by unlocking and locking the Model Y.

Warning: The batteries of the remote key contain a substance that can cause chemical burns and should not be consumed. The remote key contains a button cell battery. If swallowed, the button cell battery can cause severe internal burns within two hours that can result in death. Keep new and used batteries out of reach of children. If the battery compartment does not close properly, stop using the product and keep it out of reach of children. If you suspect that a battery has been swallowed or placed in any part of your body, seek medical attention immediately.
