Replacing the cabin air filter
Note: The location of the screw on the cabin filter cover may differ slightly depending on the vehicle's date of manufacture.
Model 3 has air filters that prevent pollen, industrial emissions, road dust, and other particles from entering through the air vents. Tesla recommends changing these filters after 2 years (every year in China). You can purchase cabin filters atTesla store (andhttps://shop.tesla.cn/ for China).
Changing the cabin filter:
- Turn off the climate control system.
- Move the right front seat all the way back and remove the floor mat.
- Using a clip prying tool, carefully release the push clips that secure the legroom panel to the right front instrument panel. Support the legroom panel while disconnecting the electrical connections, then set the panel aside.
- For the lights, gently press down on the tab while releasing the connector.
- For the speaker, gently angle the vehicle-side connector so that the small tab releases from the hole in the connector on the footwell panel side, while releasing the connector.
Försiktig: To avoid injury, do not pull the conductors when disconnecting the connectors. When disconnecting the connectors, be sure to pull the plastic off the connectors themselves.
- Using a pry tool, carefully unhook the panel, starting from the top and working down, from the right side of the center console.
- Remove the T20 screw that secures the cabin filter cover to the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) module, then remove the cabin filter cover and set it aside. On some vehicles, the screw is a T20/6 mm hybrid fastener. Locking tabs can also replace the screw: use your index finger and thumb to press the two tabs at the bottom of the cabin filter cover together. Tilt the cover outwards to remove it.
Note: If the HVAC module does not have a cover for the cabin filter, replace the panels and contact Tesla.
Warning: Be careful not to stretch, bend or otherwise damage the orange high voltage cables attached to the cabin filter cover. If the high-voltage cables are damaged, stop work immediately. Otherwise, serious injury or death may result.
- Fold up the upper cabin filter flap and fold down the lower cabin filter flap.
- Pull the upper cabin filter out of the HVAC module while holding its tab.
- Pull the lower cabin filter upwards out of the HVAC module while holding its tab.
- Make sure the arrows on the two new filters are pointing backwards lengthwise of the vehicle and insert the lower cabin filter into the HVAC module and lower it into place. Then place the upper cabin filter on top.
- Fold in the tabs to allow the cabin filter cover to be fitted.
- Install the cabin filter cover by engaging its lower fixing tab and securing it with the T20 screw or the T20/6 mm hybrid fastener. Tighten the screw to 1.2 Nm/0.89 ft-lbs. Vehicles that have tabs instead of a T20 screw: maneuver the top notch of the cabin filter into place, then attach the tabs to the bottom of the HVAC module.
- Connect the two electrical connections to the components in the panel to the right front leg space and secure the panel with the push clips.
- Align the right side panel with the front and rear guide slots in the center console and press until all the clips are secured correctly.
- Replace the floor mat and then move the front right side seat back.
