Changing the remote key battery
The remote key battery lasts for approximately one year under normal use. When the battery charge is low, a message appears on the dashboard. To replace the battery, perform the following steps:
Note: Tesla recommends changing the battery in all remote keys at the same time.
- Place the remote key face down on a soft surface and use a small flat-bladed tool or fingernail to release the lower cover.
- Remove the battery by gently lifting it away from the front retaining clips.
- Insert the new battery (type CR2032) with +side facing up.
Anm: Tesla recommends the use of PanasonicCR2032 batteries. These can be purchased online, at local supermarkets, and at other stores that sell batteries.
Note: Wipe the battery before installation and avoid touching the flat surfaces of the battery. Fingerprints on the flat surfaces of the battery may shorten battery life.
- Keeping the door angled, align the tabs on the widest side of the door with the corresponding openings on the remote key, and then press the door firmly onto the remote key until it snaps into place.
- Verify that the remote key works by unlocking and locking the vehicle.
