Tesla Confirms Development of Wireless Charging Solution for Electric Cars

Tesla has confirmed that it is developing a wireless induction charging solution for electric cars. This means that you can charge your car wirelessly by simply parking it over a plate in the garage, without the need to connect any cables or handle charging pads. Although the technology has been tried before, it has yet to become widely used, but Tesla is now showing increased interest in it. Franz von Holzhausen, Tesla's head of design, confirmed this in a video with Jay Leno, saying that they are working on inductive charging to make charging even smoother. An image of a wireless charging pad was also previously shown by Rebecca Tinucci, head of Tesla's charging infrastructure. However, nothing has been revealed about when the wireless charging pad will be launched or what effect it will have. It is also not clear if it will be integrated into Tesla's Supercharger network. In general, wireless charging has lower power than traditional wired charging, but there are advances in the field. Researchers at Chalmers in Gothenburg have previously demonstrated a charging pad with a power output of up to 500 kW, made possible by the use of silicon carbide-based semiconductors. This indicates that there is potential for high-power wireless charging in the future.
