Production stop at Tesla's Giga Berlin ahead of record production and expansion plans

Production at Tesla's factory in Germany, located outside Berlin, has been suspended for the time being due to a component shortage. This shortage has been caused by security concerns in the Red Sea, where attacks on ships have disrupted the supply chain. As a result, the factory has had to pause its production from January 29 to February 11.

Despite this temporary downtime, the factory had recently achieved a significant increase in production. Just before the production stop, the plant managed to produce 6.000 units of Model Y in a single week, marking a new record level for the factory since its inception in early 2022. This increase in the production rate is part of a larger trend, with the factory reaching a milestone in March with a weekly production of 5.000 cars. This annual production pace equates to 250,000 vehicles, which is half of the factory's target of 500,000 cars per year.

The ambitions go further than that, however. Plans to double production capacity to one million cars per year are already in development, underscoring Tesla's commitment to scaling up its manufacturing capacity significantly. Production at Giga Berlin is expected to resume on February 12, pointing to a rapid recovery and continued expansion.
